Ambikapuram is a hamlet surrounded by historically famous agraharams like Kalpathy,
Kumarapuram and Chokkanathapuram. According to the Hindu Tradition of one village-One Temple, this village too has a temple. While the name of the village is Ambikapuram, the presiding Deity in the temple is Sri Navaneethakrishna. How this has happened? An incident can be found narrated in the Dasama Skantha of Sreemad Bhagavatham. Once Balarama and Sreekrishna accompanied by Nandagopar arrived in the Ambikavanam to worship Sri-Parameswara and Sri-Parvathy. After the rituals, they retired to a coupy nook and fell asleep when a python tried to swallow Nandagopar. Lord Krishna appeared there and at the very touch by the lotus feet of Lord, the snake known as sudharsana. It may be the spiritual prowess of Lord Ambikapuresa, who freed Vidyadhara from the bondage of cures that is conceptualized and incorporated in the presiding Deity in the Ambikapuram Temple.
